Year 2

For the last half term Class 2’s topic is ‘The Secret Garden’. We will be looking at minibeasts and their habitats. The lifecycles of plants and insects including what they need to survive. We will be designing and building a new home for minibeasts. We will be exploring our beautiful school grounds and comparing the different areas. How are they different? Where is the best habitat for minibeasts? Using technology, we will be taking photos of the areas and minibeasts we find, making graphs to display our findings and through animation showing the life cycle of a butterfly. We will also be looking at plants in detail, labelling the parts and identifying their use. The stories around this topic will include ‘The Secret Garden’ and ‘The Cautious Caterpillar’. Throughout this topic there will be opportunities for self-directed tasks and a chance to explore individual areas of interest.
