This term Year 4 have been working hard in the garden. We have been planting lots of different vegetables including carrots, parsnips, potatoes, peas and many more. We have been learning how to look after these vegetables and the role they play in making us healthy individuals. We have also been learning about how important bees and other pollinators are in helping our vegetables, fruits and flowers grow.
Year 4 worked hard making windmills out of colourful card as part of their climate change topic.
Jessie visited us in school again and we planted our vegetables ready for our pizzas, played vegetable top trumps and dressed up as insects that visit our garden.
We have learnt how to build circuits that include various components such as batteries, bulbs, motors and buzzers. We have also learnt about conductors and insulators and have investigated which objects belong to which category.
This week we have been learning about the effect of greenhouse gases on our climate. Jessie brought a variety of food with her this week and we examined where they came from and their carbon footprints.
We can all reduce our carbon footprint by eating more locally sourced seasonal produce.
Starting this term we have an amazing opportunity to work with a local organisation called Cae Tan.
Cae Tan is a Community Supported Agriculture Project based on the Gower Peninsula.
At Cae Tan they grow and supply fresh, seasonal and biodynamic produce to their members throughout the year.
We will be taking part in this project over the next two academic years. We will be working with Jessie, learning how to grow seasonal and organic vegetables which we will then use to make soup and pizza. We will also be learning how the food we eat affects our carbon footprint and the world around us.
Hopefully we will be able to visit Cae Tan farm on The Gower (restrictions allowing).

Summer Term 2021
This term our topic will be: Global Warming. Through our topic we will be learning how we as humans are affecting our environment and what we can do to reduce our impact on the world around us. We will also be learning about renewable and non-renewable energy sources and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
During our science & technology lessons we will be learning about electricity and its safe use. We will then be using this knowledge to design and build our own mini wind turbines.
As part of our literacy lessons we will be looking at discussion texts and how to write a fair and balanced argument.
Our P.E. day will be Friday and the children will come to school in their P.E. kit. We will also be having drama on a Monday.
The majority of homework will be given via Hwb as we continue to increase the children’s digital skills and move to work in a paperless way.
