Reception have been extremely busy this term, we investigated which materials would float and which would sink to help us build rafts for the Billy Goats Gruff. We mapped the journey to our Dingly Dell, just like Red Riding Hood's journey. Our beans we planted are growing tall just like Jack's Beanstalk and we also built a bridge for the Billy goats Gruff.

Summer Term 2021

Our theme this term is ‘ Fairytales’. We will be learning about lots of traditional Fairytales including Jack and the Beanstalk, the Billy Goat’s Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood. We will be creating our own beanstalks, measuring with giant footprints, building rafts and bridges to help the Billy Goat’s and developing our story telling skills through role play and puppets. We are learning to count to 20 and beyond .

March 2021

Our topic is Toys, we have been enjoying many different stories about toys. We have been retelling stories using puppets, playing matching games and been using our phonic knowledge to write about the stories. We have sorted toys using different criteria e.g. new toys and old toys. We have been enjoying the Jolly Phonic songs and practicing writing our letters. In Numeracy we have been counting and ordering numbers. We have been telling addition stories using the Numicon and sets of toys. Also we have really enjoyed buying and selling things in our class toy shop. We have been programming the Beebot to move in different directions around the toy shop. We continue to practice our reading with Reading Eggs and enjoy reading our books each week. During our Welly Walks we have been signs of spring detectives, word detectives and have created welsh dragons out of natural materials. We have learnt about St David and the symbols in Wales, we have been thinking about our promises in Lent and what it means to love.
